The Make & Craft Blog Tour and Giveaway

I'm very excited to be part of the Make & Craft Blog Tour for a fab new craft magazine which is being launched on 12 October 2012. Thanks to the lovely Handmade Harbour for passing on the baton to me.

Make and Craft is a new monthly magazine which will feature a wide range of different crafts including sewing.  I'm a bit of a sucker for glossy magazines so its great to know there is a new one to try out. One of the things that appeals to me about Make & Craft is there will be a mini magazine called 'Kids Craft Club' included. This really interests me as my 7 year old daughter Izzy loves to make things and is getting to the age where she can make things without help from me with the right projects. I'm really interested to see what this will look like. We can share the magazine and I will have a great excuse to buy it! Make & Craft have some great subscription offers at the moment. 3 digital editions for £1 or 3 print editions for £3 with a fab free gift for longer subscriptions. They have a great website too www.makeandcraft.com which encourages crafters to get in touch with each other online to share ideas, take part in crafty swaps or discuss new craft books in the monthly online bookclub.

The lovely people at Make & Craft have sent me a gorgeous craft book to give away to one of my blog readers.

Its one of the 'Love to Sew' series published by Search Press. This one is called 'Pincushions' by Salli-Ann Cook (£7.99 ISBN 978-1-84448-822-3). Its a lovely book full of fun and quirky pincushions (20 projects in all) which would be perfect to make for yourself or to give as presents. It has great ideas to make decorative pins to put in the pincushions made out of shrink plastic. This is such a sweet idea and really makes the pincushions special.

My favourites are a hedgehog with pin leaves

and the cat with pin fish!

All patterns and templates are included in the book. If you don't win the giveaway, you can always buy it here. You even get free P&P by calling Search Press on 01892 510850 and quoting 'Make and Craft Blog Tour'.

I'm supposed to share a little information about me too so here it goes! I'm a 40 something mum of 2 who is completely addicted to fabric and sewing. I love to write about all things sewing related hence the Sew Scrumptious blog! I make and sell quirky fabric gifts for children (tooth fairy cushions, hair clip tidies, bibs etc) which you can find here.

I also co-ordinate the 'Dress a Girl Around the World Charity' in the UK which encourages people who can sew to make pillowcase dresses for girls living in poverty in the developing world. We have collected over 2,600 dresses so far and distributed them to Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Ghana and India.

So to win this lovely book, just register on the Make and Craft website, follow my blog and leave a comment below. The giveaway will close on Sunday 14 October when I will pick a name from the hat to win.

Make sure you go and see the next lovely blog on the Blog Tour. Its the lovely Georgina Giles blog.

  5. The pincushions look lovely - what a nice idea for a sewing book, pincushions are useful little projects ideal for trying out new techniques and a girl can never have too many of them! I'm teaching my 10-year-old granddaughter to sew so this book could be ideal for her.

Your makes look lovely and your dress a girl around the world project is inspiring.

Thanks for taking the baton from me! It's good to be part of a blog tour - I'm really enjoying visiting the different blogs.

  6. Thank you so much for joining the Make and Craft Book Club blog tour. Its lovely to have Sew Scrumptious involved. The book looks wonderful and so many ideas.
Your shop is full of lovely items to buy and the fabrics you use are gorgeous. The pillow case dresses is such a wonderful way for girls around the world to receive dresses. They are so easy to make.
The Kids Craft Club is an excellent way for children to be a part of the craft world with competitions, being a product tester and taking part in challenges and lots of projects to make each month. There’s a lot to be added to our website for children too, so keep your eye out for that.

  8. I'm really impressed your 7 year old has her own sewing machine. My 6 year old is always asking to have a go on mine so maybe you've just provided a birthday present idea! Combined with the mag we might just be onto something!
